I recently came across a fantastic letter written by Larry Fink, the CEO of BlackRock, to his clients on the topic of sustainable investing and a zero-carbon goal on a global scale by 2050. The company has pledged to make sustainability a core standard for investing and I expect this trend with large asset managers to continue.
Investors are clearly voicing their support through increased investing in companies who also support this initiative and it is creating an opportunity for investors to achieve better long-term returns. Last year nearly $300 billion flowed into mutual funds and ETFs focused on this topic and this is not a trend that’s likely to stop.
The key takeaway for me is: “Climate risk is investment risk” and you no longer need to sacrifice returns to help our environment.
On this topic, you really can have both.
