Lafayette 148 Celebrates Unordinary Women - Karen-Boykin Towns
A corporate powerhouse and veteran of Fortune 500 companies like Pfizer, the NAACP Vice Chairman — Karen Boykin-Towns has learned to be bold and speak up for change and empowers others to do the same. “Using your voice doesn’t have to be speaking to tens of thousands of folks. It’s about figuring out what’s authentic, and putting that out there,” says Boykin-Towns.
Karen has built a reputation as a visionary and strategic results-driven leader. Being a part of a complex business and government environment, she has demonstrated success in the areas of policy, advocacy, communications, and proactive change management. Since concluding her impressive 22-year career at Pfizer Inc, she now serves as President and CEO of Encore Strategies, LLC.
Karen has joined forces with her organization, to face today’s most pressing issues. “We’ve been looking to meet the moment, helping our leaders in the field address the issues of economic inequality and disparities around COVID.” Through it all, she’s relied on the strength of her friendships and network. “I have hope in our community. Because we’ve stepped up to help others and to band together to get through this.”
“The NAACP is 112 years old, and it is incredible that we are still fighting the fight for justice. These are the issues that my mother and grandmother dealt with. To now help lead, and build a better path is a bit daunting. There has been a lot of hope to look out across America and see people say “enough is enough”. It is empowering, it is refreshing, and a big sigh of relief. I believe that we have more than just a moment, but a movement. I have hope in our community because we have stepped up to help others and to band together to get through this — so I am hopeful.”
