Executive coaching has evolved from a rare practice to a common and accepted approach in the corporate world. Most individuals seeking coaching already understand its benefits and have clear expectations of what they hope to achieve. Having been an advocate of coaching since the outset of my professional career, I am pleased to see the way the corporate world has shifted its mindset towards executive coaching, and how it is becoming a common practice for many.
Reading the article “6 Ways An Executive Coach Can Make You More Successful” by Erika Anderson in Forbes, I was fascinated to see some of the key positive outcomes of executive coaching in list form. The article highlights several effective outcomes of executive coaching, including increased self-awareness, skill development, fresh perspectives, overcoming obstacles, heightened self-confidence, and goal achievement. These benefits align with the notion that executive coaching serves as a catalyst for personal and professional growth, enabling individuals to enhance their leadership capabilities, navigate challenges more effectively, and ultimately achieve greater success.
Executive coaching tends to have similar positive effects for most, as a combination of some, or all of the above outcomes. It is important to mention, however, that simply working with a coach is not enough to avail these benefits of the process. It requires immense effort and openness from the individual wanting to be coached. The article reads, “If you’re not willing to go through the often-daunting, frustrating, and embarrassing process of acknowledging that you need to grow, and actually doing what it takes to grow, you won’t benefit from having a coach. No matter how old you are or where you are in your career, if you want to get the most from having a coach, you have to be willing to be a novice in some areas.”
